It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.

Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.

Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.

Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

Once in a while, a book sparks my interest without me even knowing about all the hype. I read the synopsis and entered to win a copy from the fabulous duo at the Fantasy Floozies Blog. And I won it!!!! Thank you Kenya and Alicia!

Took me a while to finally pick it up. It kept getting recommended to me, so I decided to just read it already! And once I started it I was intrigued. I was in a sort of post apocalyptic world, obliterated and forever changed by Angels, no less. Who ever thought of Angels as the enemy???

But even though the story line was already interesting, the beginning was a little so-so, and I was not immediately blown away. BUT... I was in for such a surprise. The moment Raffe falls from the sky, and gets his wings cruelly cut off in the middle of the street, I was HOOKED!!!!

This book just turned into a messy ball of awesome. It had everything I wanted and more. Great writing and imagery. The post apocalyptic thing is just right up my alley. Angels are now my new favorite thing. Not to mention a kick ass survivor of a girl, Penryn. Chuck Norris would be jealous really. A complex world that really makes your head spin because it is such an original setting, with such intriguing characters.  A forbidden love. Sacrifice, loss and hope. Super creepy lab experiments where kids are not exempt! Monstrosities that may give you some nightmares for sure.

(Takes breath.)

It was just fantastic.

Blew my expectations totally out of orbit.

Can't wait to read the next one. It really can't be published fast enough for my liking!

Liked it so much I will gift a lucky reader a paperback copy!

  1. Ooh a five star review, looks like this is right up my fantasy alley :)
thanks for the great review !!

  2. My most recent 5 star read was Pivot Point by Kasie West. I loved it because there were several very interesting twists that I just didn't see coming.

    1. Hi Nicole! I checked out Pivot Point and it sounds really interesting. Added it to my list of books to read. Thank you for the recommendation! Not sure if it is still up on Netgalley, but I am going to take a peek just in case! :)

  3. Eleanor and Park and The Sea of Tranquility. This books have memorable, quinque characters and slow burning love story. :)

    1. Hi Antonia! 'The Sea of Tranquility' was fantastic and made me bawl my eyes out. Looks like I already have 'Eleanor and Park' on the list, so got to make a note to move that book up the ranks. :) Thanks you for the recommendation and good luck on the giveaway.

  4. The last book I gave 5 stars was Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost. :) I just started reading the series.
The most memorable book I've read was Easy by Tammara Webber in contemporary genre and the Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent in paranormal! Easy is brilliant and I keep re-reading it! And the Soul Screamers books are really unique and addictive! Must-read definitely!

    1. Hi Veronika! That entire series by Jeaniene Frost is one of my faves! I think you will love every book. I haven't read the last one yet, but I have it. Just have to find some time to squeeze it in. I have 'Easy' on my to read as well as the first of the 'Soul Screamers' and looking forward to them as well. So many good reads, so little time! Thank you for your comment, and good luck!

  5. My latest 5 stars are Lover Awakened by J.R Ward and Warm Bodies by Issac Marion.
Lover Awakened is the 3rd of the Black Dagger Brotherhood and it is far better than the first 2 in the series, and maybe even the rest (haven't read them yet). It's a heartbreaking story.
Warm Bodies is one of these books I never expected to like, as it is about Zombies, but I completely fall in love with the characters and the world and all of it.

I also really recommend Soulless by Gail Carriger, one of the funniest books I've ever read, and it has such fantastic characters and plot! :)

    1. Thank you for dropping in! I love the BlackDagger series, and I finished Book 4. Hoping to make some time in the upcoming months to pick up the next few in the series. Warm Bodies was off my radar until I saw the preview for the movie, and hope to read it before watching it on the screen. I added 'Soulless' to my to read list. Sounds really interesting! Good luck with the giveaway. :)

  6. Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers and Written in Red by Anne Bishop!

    1. Hi Lynn,

I can't WAIT to read Dark Triumph. I loved Grave Mercy. I will have to check out 'Written in Red'. I have read a couple of Anne Bishop's novels and enjoyed them. Thanks for the recs and good luck on the giveaway.
