2017 has been an eventful year, not just on this blog but personally as well. At the beginning of this year, I was excited and pumped up to start reading and writing again. Even got to partner up with Erin, who helped me start this blog years ago, and her sister Samantha as co-bloggers. Erin has great talents in designing so she gave our blog a much needed refresher which I LOVE. It feels so chill and laid back, and since I read so many different genres, it fit well. I am also working with her on design for a new project in 2018 which I look forward to announcing shortly into the new year, so stay tuned!
Our 2017 review warrants two separate posts, because we did have quite a bit going on that I am proud of and want to recap.
Today we look at the Best of the Best!
Our Top Posts!
Let's start this off with our top 3 posts of the year! We got some mean traffic for these three! WOW, and thank you for your visits and support.
3rd Place - Teeny Tiny Reviews - Netgalley Edition
In my determination to get this Netgalley challenge accelerated, I doubled up and tripled up on my reviews. Some of the books that I had pending on the list had been read, but I had not yet sat down to write up the reviews.. for some of these books, for a YEAR! How embarrassing! :( Surprisingly this post got lots of attention, maybe because of the titles. I reviewed Believe, by Erin McCarthy, a YA/NA romance title, Sweet Revenge by Rebecca Zanetti, an Action romance which kept me interested from beginning to end, and a suspense thriller, The Devil Will Come, by Glenn Cooper which I enjoyed also.
2nd Place - Relaunch! - We are back in business!
Our first post of the year, and the first post in a while! We got lots of views for this one which we were so grateful for and gave us so much drive to get this blog going! It was an amazing feeling that after quite a while of no posts, we had a lot of readers on our intro post for our relaunch.
1st Place - Author Spotlight - Nicole French
Wow, our first Author Spotlight in ages, and our top viewed blog post! Erin really enjoyed her books and decided she really wanted to get to know more about Nicole French and share it with you guys. We had lots of traffic for this post, and we hoped you enjoyed this interview as much as I am sure Erin enjoyed writing it.
Top 5 Books of 2017
I did manage to get a few books in this year, little baby boy and all! Not sure how I got it done, but I tried to schedule in a little reading time regularly. Self care is so important when you are a new mom, and this was my self care.
I had some mehs, some disappointing and some great reads. These were my top 5 books of the year for me. (The book covers are also links to their respective Goodreads.com pages so you can read more about them.)
This novel is a prime example as to why I just absolutely love YA fantasy romance. I have not yet reviewed this novel, but I was truly transported to a new world with interesting creatures, and two people that fall hopelessly in love. It tugged at my heart and just left me breathless. Loved loved loved this one and can't wait to read the next installment being published early in 2018.
Nick Cutter's The Troop was a Netgalley novel I was accepted for and took forever to read. It became one of my favorite books that I read this year. It was absolutely disgusting, creepy and just really well written. It played out to me like a movie in my mind, and I got through this novel quickly with a few gags. Trust me... it's gross. Check out my review here.
I have not yet reviewed Medea. The review will be up in January 2018. Another Netgalley that I took way too long to get into, and a reminder to myself that I need to pick up a few more of these historical fantasies, because I just LOVE them when they are well written. And this one was. What an adventure this was!
Holy crap! JUST finished reading this one last night. I am still gathering my thoughts on this book. It was AMAZING!!! This had such originality, and a subtly growing romance that was so intense all at the same time. This was hands down THE BEST BOOK I read this year!!
I broke my "do not request" rule this year for Netgalley with this book. Though not within my usual chosen themes to read, something about this book really called to me. I am so happy that I was accepted for a copy for review, because I really enjoyed this story. It has stayed with me, and I still think about these characters and their unlikely romance. You can check out my more detailed thoughts in my review here.
What were your favorite books that you read this year? New or older, I am always looking for an excellent book to escape into, so welcome your comments!
Stay tuned for part 2 of this post, where I go through my challenges for the year and discuss successes and failures. I am sure some of you bloggers and readers that set some goals will relate!
